About "A Park For All"
Outdoor playgrounds provide all of us a place to take a break from our lives, enjoy the outdoors and “play” in our communities. However, outdoor playgrounds are not typically designed for people with disabilities.
There is a clear need to create recreation opportunities for those with disabilities. More than five million children in the US have a disability that makes it difficult for them to enjoy traditional playgrounds - they do not have an opportunity to experience what other children take for granted. Special needs c hildren touch millions of lives a day. More than one person in seven knows a child with a disability. (source: National Center on Boundless Playgrounds)
In the Kansas City area there is only one other playground that provides quality recreation for people with disabilities. Although it serves the eastern and core metropolitan areas well, it is more than 45 minutes away for almost 600,000 people who live in the south, west, and northern parts of the metropolitan area.
We formed our organization, "A Park For All, Inc." to address the need - a park for people of all abilities, and all ages serving the western Kansas City metropolitan area.
